A strong historical connection, linked to two of the club’s co-founders and Mexican footballers throughout our history
The connection between Valencia CF and Mexico is special, and there has been a bond over the years. In the 1960s, the club embarked on two tours (1963 and 1966) that helped restore diplomatic relations between Spain and Mexico, bringing our emblem closer to local fans and to the Valencians and Valencia CF supporters exiled in the country. These tours also resulted in memorable encounters, such as that with the intellectual Max Aub, as well as iconic photographs, like the one of Roberto Gil with Mario Moreno ‘Cantinflas’.
That episode also gave rise to a significant historical fact: Valencia CF has the honor of being the first team to win in the Estadio Azteca during the inaugural tournament in which they participated alongside Atlante, Club Necaxa, and Club América.
Mexico is also the homeland to which two of the club’s co-founders, Octavio Augusto Milego and Julio Gascó, emigrated, and it has contributed numerous players to both Valencia CF and Valencia CF Femenino. The club's most recent sporting visit to the country was in 2003, when they played a friendly match against Toluca FC.
